The Cats will compete in the two-day race in Sacramento, Calif.

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State women's rowing team will open their season this weekend in Sacramento, Calif. with the Hornet Invitational on Saturday and Sunday (March 16-17) hosted by Sacramento State.

Prior to racing, the team has spent a week in California completing their spring training camp. The camp is an opportunity to continue preparing for the season, focusing on water time and finalizing initial lineups.

"Coming off of a solid spring camp, we have gotten a lot of good work done," head coach Patrick Sweeney said. "At this time, we have finished looking at some early lineups to start the season. This race is a chance to see where we are and what we need to work on moving forward."

Saturday will be split into two sessions, a morning and an afternoon session-- The Varsity 8+ race will start the day at 6:30 a.m. CT, V8+ boats starting races again at 1 p.m. CT.

On Sunday, the boats will race for a third time, the Varsity 8+ starting the day once again at 6:30 a.m. CT.

"We're looking forward to the start of the season and getting multiple opportunities to come down the course," Sweeney said. "Our athletes have put in work throughout the year, especially during our winter training season, and this is an opportunity to put that into practice."

This is the third consecutive year, since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the Wildcats have competed in the Hornet Invitational at Sac State. Schools competing this year will include the hosting Hornets, St. Mary's, and UC San Diego

"We are in a good spot to start, and we're ready to see what we are capable of at this time," Sweeney said.
