TUCSON, Ariz. – The Kansas State women's golf team carded a final-round score of even-par 288 on Sunday to finish in seventh place with a 54-hole score of 3-over par 867 at the MountainView Collegiate held at the Preserve Golf Club.

It was K-State's best finish at the MountainView Collegiate since also placing seventh in 2019. The Wildcats' 54-hole score of 867 was their fourth-best mark of the season and ranked 11th in school history.

"The ladies battled hard all week even though we didn't have our best stuff," head coach Stew Burke said. "I'm proud of the effort. Ultimately, it feels more like an opportunity lost. However, we have to remember that this is a huge step in the right direction and shows that we can compete with the nation's elite. Individually all the ladies know what they need to work on when they're home and what mistakes we need to clean up as we prepare to head to Georgia and another tough field next week."

Junior Carla Bernat finished in third place at 7-under par 209 thanks to a final-round score of 3-under par 69, her second-straight round in the 60s and ninth this season. A native of Castellon, Spain, Bernat tied for first in the field in par-5 scoring (-6) and tied for third in par-4 scoring (-3).

Bernat captured her third top-five finish this season, while she has carded a 209 in each of her last three events. Bernat recorded the Wildcats' highest individual finish at the MountainView Collegiate since Helene Robert tied for third place in 2006.

After shooting even par in each of the first two rounds, senior Haley Vargas turned in a 2-under par 70 on Sunday to move three spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 15th place at 2-under par 214. A native of Lubbock, Texas, Vargas notched her eighth under-par round of the year on Sunday, while she went under par for her total score in a second-straight event.

"It was a great performance for Carla and Haley, and they continue to step up when needed," Burke said.

Another senior, Napua Glossner, tied for 27th place at 2-over par 218 after going 1-over par 73 in the final round. Over her last two events, Glossner is averaging 71.83 strokes per round.

Sophomore Noa van Beek tied for 57th place at 10-over par 226 after a second-consecutive round of 4-over par 76 on Sunday. She finished two shots ahead of freshman Julia Ballester Barrio, who was competing as an individual and tied for 65th place after also carding a 76 on Sunday.

Senior Gabriela McNelly carded her best round of the event on Sunday at 4-over par 76, as she finished in 81st place at 22-over par 238.

South Florida turned in an impressive score of 11-under par 277 on Sunday to earn the team title by four shots over Texas A&M at 16-under par 848. USF's Melanie Green carded a 6-under par 66 over the final 18 holes to rise two spots and claim individual medalist honors at 11-under par 205.

K-State will be back in action March 29-30 when the Wildcats take part in the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic held at the University of Georgia GC in Athens, Georgia.
