Wildcats Travel for First Set of Big 12 Road Matches

This will be the first matchup with BYU in Provo, Utah
MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team will compete in the first two road match of the Big 12 conference schedule, facing BYU on Thursday (March 7) and Texas Tech on Saturday (March 9).

No. 65 K-State (7-3, 1-1 Big 12) will travel to Provo, Utah for the first time to face #37 BYU (10-1, 2-0 Big 12) on Thursday at 1 p.m. CT.

On Saturday, the Wildcats will head to Lubbock, Texas, to compete against #24 Texas Tech (9-4, 2-0 Big 12).

This will be the first time K-State competes against the Cougars in spring competition, the two teams' first meeting in the fall during the Big 12 Fall Championship in Waco, Texas. BYU has one ranked player in singles, Yujia Huang at no. 74 with a 16-9 record.

The Cats are 0-9 against the Red Raiders, losing last season 6-1, also in Lubbock. Tech is also featured in the singles ranking, Cristina Tiglea at no. 85 with a 13-6 record.

In the recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings released on Tuesday (March 5), K-State sits in the team rankings at no. 65, sophomore Vanesa Suarez no. 105 in singles.

In the first two Big 12 matches of the season, K-State went 1-1, defeating Iowa State, the first victory over the Cyclones since 2019, the Wildcats winning 6-1, before falling to Kansas 4-1.

Freshman Maralgoo Chogsomjav was the only Wildcat to win both of her matches, now on a five match win streak. In doubles competition, junior Veronika Kulhava and freshman Tereza Polakova were successful in both matches, now 4-1 as a pair.
