Omalla Competes in 400 Meter Semifinals on NCAA Day Two

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Eugene Omalla represented K-State track and field on day two of the NCAA Indoor Championship on Friday (March 8) in the 400 meter dash semifinals at the TRACK at new balance.
 
Omalla finished 11th in 46.37 seconds, behind the 8th place and final qualifying time of 46.14 seconds.
 
William Jones of USC ran the fastest semifinal time of 45.40 seconds, a new facility record.
 
After arriving in Manhattan to start the spring semester, Omalla competed in the 400 meter dash four times. During the Big 12 Championship (Feb. 23-24) he set a K-State school, meet and Sports Performance Center facility record in the preliminary race in 45.29 seconds (altitude converted). He medaled in the final race with a 5th place time of 45.89 seconds.
 
On the final day of competition on Saturday (March 9), sophomore Sharie Enoe will compete in the women's high jump at 12 p.m. CT, the men's 4x400 relay—E. Omalla and seniors Kyle Gale and Jaimie Omalla and freshman Tavon Underwood-- running at 4:20 p.m. CT.
