K-State Gives Multiple Top-5 Performances in California

The Wildcats will finish up competition in day four on Saturday
WALNUT, Calif. – The K-State track and field teams saw day three of competition in the Mt SAC Relays on Friday (April 19) at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
The Wildcats competed in different sections of field events, also recording their best times on the track.
Junior Alex Gutierrez won the men's 1,500 meters with a time of 3:50.57, while sophomore Grace Meyer finished 3rd in the women's event with a new personal best of 4:29.74. Senior Sydney Burton was the only Wildcat to compete in an elite event during the day, also running in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:24.58 in 14th place.
Two women finished top-5 in throwing events; in the shot put, senior Jasmine Greer landed in 3rd place with a throw of 15.45m/50-8.25. Junior Daisy Monie competed in the collegiate discus throw where she finished 4th with a distance of 51.92m/170-4.
In the men's discus 'A' event, senior Andrew White (3rd; 56.99m/186-11) and sophomore Nate Collier (4th; 56.34m/184-10) finished back-to-back in the top-5.
Two Wildcats recorded their fastest 400 meters; freshman Nen Matlock in the men's event in 47.12 seconds in 9th place and sophomore Twaneise Johnson in the women's event in 14th place in 54.49 seconds, both in a field of 40 plus runners.
Sophomore Jhavor Bennett competed in two jumping events, jumping his new triple jump best by a quarter of an inch at 14.93m/48-11.75 with a wind aide of 2.0, in 8th place. In the long jump, he finished 13th with a distance of 7.27m/23-10.25 (2.3).
Competing in the pole vault, sophomore Claire Bybee tied for 2nd in the women's event, clearing a height of 3.95m/12-11.50. Senior Jesse Pinkley then finished 5th in the men's pole vault at a height of 4.87m/15-11.75. Also in vertical jumps, junior Madelyn McCabe tied for 5th in the women's high jump, clearing a height of 1.72m/5-7.75.
Other bests on the track came from senior Kyle Johnston in the men's 800 meters where he ran his fastest time in almost a year in 1:52.61 in 11th place. In the women's 400 meter hurdles, sophomore Jourdin Edwards finished 10th in 59.86 seconds, while sophomore Delaney Wright ran in the event for the first time at 1:04.71.
Freshman Josphine Wanjiku is set to run in the 5,000 meter elite at 11:25 p.m. CT.
Starting the final day of competition on Saturday (April 20), the Wildcats will start at 11 a.m. CT with the women's hammer throw, before racing at 3 p.m. CT, with the men's 400 meter elite.
