
Wildcats Record Multiple K-State Outdoor Top-10 Performances

Five Wildcats moved up in the K-State all-time top-10
TUCSON, Ariz. – The K-State track and field teams wrapped up competition on Saturday (April 6) in the Jim Click Shootout, multiple Wildcats giving K-State all-time top-10 performances at Drachman Stadium.
In a team scored meet with six other competitors, including Cincinnati and Kansas, after 20 events the men's team tied for 4th with 83.5 points, the women's team in 6th with 82 points. The hosting Arizona Wildcats won the men's competition with 154 points, Nebraska's women winning with 158.50 points.
On the track and in the field, the Wildcats landed top-10, both in the standings and the K-State record books.
The men's 4x400 relay, consisting of freshman Nen Matlock and seniors Kyle Gale, Eugene Omalla and Jaimie Omalla, won their first race together outdoors with a time of 3:04.66, no. 4 all-time outdoors. Gale is also part of the relay teams holding the top-three 4x400 K-State records.
Two discus throwers both recorded new personal best throws, landing them in the record books. Sophomore Nate Collier finished 3rd in the men's discus at 57.10m/187-4, no. 7 in the records. In the women's event, junior Daisy Monie recorded a new best by six feet at 52.86m/173-5, in 4th place and no. 8 in the top-10.
Two women competed in the 400 meter hurdles—sophomore Jourdin Edwards (5th; 58.71) and junior Ludivine Aubert (7th; 59.81), both with new fastest times, Edwards' time now no. 9 in the K-State records.
The Wildcats swept the men's and women's 3,000 meter steeplechase. Junior Tommy Hazen won the men's event with a time of 9:11.75, senior Hannah Stewart in the women's at 10:18.56. Sophomore Cecilia Fisher also competed with her new fastest time of 10:39.45 as runner-up, moving up to no. 7 in the women's steeplechase.
Sophomore Sharie Enoe competed for the first time this season, starting off with a win and clearing a height of 1.80m/5-10.75. In the men's event, sophomore Aaron Antoine and junior Marcus Gelpi both passed 2.10m/6-10.75, for 3rd and 4th place, respectively.
The Cats shaved a couple seconds off their fastest middle distance times. Junior Will Carroll competed in the 800 meters, with a time of 1:50.93 in 6th place, his fastest time in almost a year. Junior Alex Gutierrez finished runner-up in the 1,500 meters at 3:48.77.
Also running in the men's 1,500 meters, senior Kyle Johnston finished 4th at 3:54.73. Senior Sydney Burton placed 5th in the women's run with a time of 4:29.76, sophomore Grace Meyer not far behind at 4:33.07 in 6th place.
Other top-five finishes included senior Jesse Pinkley in the men's pole vault, tying for 5th place with a height of 5.07m/16-7.50, in a competition field of six men from Kansas. Against 20 competitors in the 200 meter dash, E. Omalla finished 5th in 21.18 seconds.
The Wildcats will take next weekend off ahead of the four-day Mt. SAC Relays competition on April 17-20 in Walnut, Calif. at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
