"The team has done a good job this season of continuing to learn and make progress," head coach Patrick Sweeney said. "Our team is young, but they have maintained their focus the entire year. We've picked up speed from race to race, and it's been exciting to see the progress we've made. This weekend is a chance to see what we are capable of and go against some strong competition."
Â
The Wildcats previously raced at Nathan Benderson Park during the Sunshine State Invitational in March. At this regatta the 1v4+ and 3v8+ earned spots in the 'A' final and the 3v8+ walked away from the weekend with a bronze medal.
Â
In their most recent race on May 4, K-State faced in-state rival Kansas in the Sunflower Showdown in Kansas City, Kan. The Cats won the 1v4+ and 3v8+ races with dominant performances. The day was also highlighted by close races in the 1v8+ and 2v8+.
Â
Prior to the Showdown, the team competed at the SIRA Championship, on April 20-21 in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The Wildcats earned three medals, a gold for the 1v4+ and silver for 1v8+ and 3v8+.
Â
K-State also previously competed in a Double Duel against Iowa and Minnesota on April 12-13. The weekend prior, the team swept all five races in Omaha, Neb., during the Creighton Duel on April 6.
Â
The team opened the season at the Hornet Invitational, where K-State recorded seven first place finishes across all boats.
Â
"It's been a year of learning, growth and making the most of every situation," Sweeney said. "We have a good team, a lot of athletes who want to work hard and see what they can accomplish together. We're proud of the
work we've done to get here and this weekend is a chance to have some fun, race hard and finish the season strong."
