Bernat Named WGCA All-American
May 24, 2024 | Women's Golf
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State junior women's golfer Carla Bernat was honored for her historic first season with the Wildcats as she was named a Second Team All-American by the Women's Golf Coaches Association of America (WGCA), the organization announced Friday.
Â
Bernat is the first Wildcat ever to be named an All-American by the WGCA, while it is the second-straight year she has been named to the second team after being honored last season while playing at Tulane. She was one of just four Big 12 golfers named an All-American by the WGCA – which lists first team, second team and honorable mention accolades – and one of just two Big 12 golfers on the second team along with Texas' Farah O'Keefe.
Â
A native of Castellon, Spain, Bernat turned in one of the most impressive seasons in K-State women's golf history, setting a new school record for single-season scoring average at 70.90. She also produced five of the program's top 11 54-hole scores in school history and three of the school's top 26 18-hole scores.
Â
Bernat will enter her senior season tied for third in career victories (2) and fifth in career top-five finishes (6). Additionally, if she keeps her current pace, she will shatter the school's career scoring average mark of 74.13, which is currently held by Connie Jaffrey (2014-18).
Â
Bernat helped guide the Wildcats to an impressive season under first-year head coach Stew Burke. The Wildcats produced four top-five finishes during the 2023-24 campaign – their most in seven years – which included a win at the White Sands Invitational in October – their first tournament win away from their home course since October 2017. Additionally, K-State produced a team scoring average of 290.25, which would have been the school record had the Wildcats played two more rounds to qualify.
