Wildcats Finish Regular Season Competition in Wichita

K-State looks next to the Big 12 Championship in Waco, Texas
WICHITA, Kan. – The K-State track and field teams got one last set of marks during the Shocker Open on Friday (May 3) at Cessna Stadium ahead of postseason competition.
The Wildcats finished the regular season with a couple wins while shaving some seconds off their race times.
Sophomore Sharie Enoe claimed first place in the women's high jump, clearing a height of 1.83m/6-0, her second win of the season. Junior Vanessa Mercera competed in the event for the second meet in a row, this time with a height of 1.70m/5-7. Sophomore Lindsey DeWitt tied for 6th at a height of 1.62m/5-4.
Mercera also competed in two events on the track, she recorded a new 100 meter hurdles personal best in 14.38 seconds in 6th place, before running in the 200 meter dash in 24.88 seconds, finishing 5th.
K-State swept the 1,500 meters, sophomore Grace Meyer claiming the women's event in 4:33.66 while senior Jack Vincent won the men's race with a time of 3:55.74. Two freshmen Wildcats also claimed the runner-up spots-- Paige Baker in the women's at 4:45.76 and Devin Chappel in the men's event just under four minutes in 3:59.16.
Two more sprinters recorded new bests-- sophomore Twaneise Johnson as runner-up in the 200 meters in 24.38 seconds. Fellow sophomore Delaney Wright ran in the 400 meter hurdles with a 3rd place time of 1:02.99.
Freshman Riley Marx keeps adding feet to his hammer throw personal best, this time finishing in 9th place with a throw of 47.01m/154-3, 10 feet better than his previous from last week during the Ward Haylett Invitational.
Other runner-up finishes came from freshman Tyrique Lewis in the men's 400 meters in 48.93 seconds against 10 competitors. Senior Aubry Donley ran in her go-to 800 meters, this time with a time of 2:14.43. Senior Jesse Pinkley competed in the men's pole vault, clearing a height of 5.00m/16-4.75.
K-State will start the postseason by heading to Waco, Texas for the Big 12 Championship next week on May 9-11 (Thursday-Saturday) at Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium.
