Bacianskaite Named Second Team All-American in Heptathlon

Bacianskaite earns her second All-America honor during her third appearance

EUGENE, Ore. – Senior Urte Bacianskaite collected Second Team All-America honors in the women's heptathlon on Saturday (June 8) during the NCAA Outdoor Championship at Hayward Field.
 
The Lithuania native finished competition with 5,696 points in 12th place during her third consecutive trip to the NCAA Championship, the most by any K-State heptathlete. During last season's Championship she earned her first Second Team honors in 9th place.
 
Bacianskaite started the day in 19th place with 3,353 points, taking a boost by winning the javelin throw with a new personal best distance of 47.48m/155-9 in her first throw, earning 811 points. She finished 12 feet ahead of the second place finisher at 43.82m/143-9.
 
During the first event of the day, she recorded her season best distance in the long jump, finishing 16th at 5.79m/19-0 (1.3). She wrapped up the day in the 800 meters with an 18th place time of 2:25.80.
 
On day one she claimed 4th place in the shot put with a throw of 14.42m/47-3.75. In the high jump she cleared a height of 1.66m/5-5.25, placing 19th. During the track events she ran the 200 meter dash in 25.45 seconds and 14.72 (1.9) in the 100 meter hurdles for 22nd and 23rd place, respectively.
 
Timara Chapman of Texas A&M won the women's heptathlon with 6,339 points. Notre Dame's Jadin O'Brien (6,234) and Texas' Kristine Blazevica (6,126) finished second and third, respectively, the only three women to record more than six thousand points.
 
Florida won the men's title, for the third consecutive year, with 41 points, just one point ahead of Auburn (40). Arkansas' women won with 63 points, claiming both the indoor and outdoor NCAA titles, just ahead second place of Florida (59).
 
Wrapping up the 2023-24 season, six Wildcats also earned All-American honorable mention-- the men's 4x400 relay team; freshman Nen Matlock, senior Jaimie Omalla, freshman Tyrique Lewis and senior Kyle Gale, senior Hannah Stewart in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase and senior Andrew White in the men's discus throw.
