K-State Continues Season with Gans Creek Invitational

This is the second consecutive season the Wildcats have raced in the Invitational
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State men's and women's cross country teams will resume their season on Friday (Sept. 27) with the Gans Creek Invitational in Columbia, Mo., at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course hosted by Missouri.

The men's 8k will begin at 8 a.m. CT, before the women's 6k gets started at 8:45 a.m. CT. Competing in a large field of runners, the Wildcats will see familiar faces from the Big 12 in Baylor and Kansas and other Midwest Region schools including Illinois State, South Dakota, Tulsa and Wichita State.

This will be the second consecutive year the Wildcats will race at Gans Creek. Last season the women's team finished 4th with 152 points while the men's team took 7th place with 241 points.

In the first race of the season at the Bob Timmons Classic on Aug. 31 in Lawrence, Kan., the women's team claimed runner-up with 41 points and the men's team finished 3rd with 62 points.

Junior Grace Meyer claimed the runner-up spot herself with a women's 5k time of 18:06.2. Senior Tommy Hazen led the men with a top-5, 4th place finish in the 6k in 18:43.8, a new personal best.

Multiple freshmen ran in their first collegiate races in Lawrence and look to get back on the course on Friday, including the women's Christine Jerono (9th; 18:51.7) and Bree Newport (12th; 19:16.2) and the men's Lucas Holdren (16th; 19:32.6) and Peyton Willbanks (12th; 19:18.2).
