Sims Named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Following her career-night in a five-set victory over Kansas, junior Symone Sims was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

The award marks the first weekly honor of her career, as she becomes the second Wildcat to earn Big 12 weekly recognition this season and first to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors since 2023.

Sims orchestrated a K-State defense that held KU to just a .104 hitting percentage – the Jayhawks' lowest mark of the season – fueling the Wildcats' upset victory. With the win, K-State snapped an eight-match losing streak against KU and captured its second Top 25 win of the season.

A product of Frisco, Texas, Sims led the back row with a career-high 26 digs as part of the Wildcats' season-best 93 digs, the most by any Big 12 team this year. Sims also chipped in eight assists and two service aces to round out her standout performance.

With her 26 digs against the Jayhawks, she became the ninth player in school history to record seven or more matches with 20-plus digs in a single season. Sims now ranks third in the Big 12 with 4.00 digs per set, while her 264 total digs sit sixth in the league.

The Wildcats (11-6, 4-5 Big 12) are headed to Salt Lake City to take on the Utah Utes (10-10, 2-7 Big 12) on Wednesday before facing 17^th-ranked BYU (17-4, 5-4 Big 12) on Halloween.
