Mansfield Adds Andrew Mabry to Coaching Staff

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State head volleyball coach Jason Mansfield has added Andrew Mabry as an assistant coach to the staff for the 2025 season. Mabry will work with the setters and serve as the recruiting coordinator.

Mabry, a native of Huntington Beach, California, brings over 20 years of coaching experience to Manhattan, spanning over the club and high school levels. The Cal State Long Beach alum has compiled nearly 280 victories during his time as a high school head coach and was named a CIF Coach of the Year in 2017 and 2023. He was voted the County Register Coach of the Year in 2017 and earned a CIF Coach with Character Award in 2015.

"Andrew is a long-time high school girls and boys head coach where he has developed many incredible athletes and built championship teams," Mansfield stated about the latest addition to the coaching staff. "His knowledge of the game, ability to mentor and train setters, and organization in recruiting are exactly what we were looking for."

"Most importantly he's a high character person who values teaching and learning. He really completes our coaching staff, and I can't wait to finally have us all together to help our athletes get better. We are so excited to welcome Andrew, Taylor, Riley and Payton to Manhattan," said Mansfield.

Prior to joining the K-State coaching staff, Mabry spent 20 years with Balboa Bay Volleyball Club and made stops along the way at Edison High School, Tesoro High School, Orange Coast College, Orange Lutheran High School and most recently Newport Harbor High School.

With the Balboa Bay Volleyball Club, Mabry coached multiple age groups on the boys' and girls' side of the club. He led and assisted teams to USA Volleyball Open Bids, USA Volleyball qualifier medals, and AAU National Championship medals. Most recently, Mabry served the last three years as the club's girls college recruiting coordinator.

At Newport Harbor, where he was named the volleyball director in 2019, Mabry served as the head coach of the girls' and boys' squads. During his tenure at Newport Harbor, the boys won back-to-back CIF Championships and were tabbed MaxPreps National Champions in 2022 and 2023.

In 2023, senior Luca Curci was named the USA Today Boys Volleyball National Player of the Year and went on to win the 2024 NCAA Men's Volleyball National Championship with UCLA.

The girl's program at Newport Harbor also had successful runs, winning back-to-back league championships in 2021 and 2022, while making the CIF State Tournament in three consecutive seasons. In 2021, the girls squad finished as Southern California Regional Finalists.

Mabry, who has also spent the past 14 years as a high school history teacher, led Orange Lutheran's girls' volleyball team to the school's first CIF Championship in 2017. With Orange Lutheran, Mabry coached CIF Player of the Year Courtney Buzzerio, who went on to earn All-Big Ten honors at Iowa and was a AVCA First Team All-American at Pitt. He also coached Audrey and Nicole Nourse, who each went on to win four NCAA Beach Volleyball Championships with USC.

Mabry graduated from Edison High School in Huntington Beach, Calif., where he was named to the Chargers' Athletics Hall of Fame in 2005. He continued his playing career at Irvine Valley College and helped the team win the 2008 CCCAA State Championship.

Andrew and his wife, Taylor, have two daughters, Riley and Payton. Mabry earned a bachelor's degree in history from Cal State Long Beach and a master's degree in teaching from National University.
