Wildcats Set Eyes on Big 12 Opener at Home

K-State will face UCF for the first time in Manhattan
MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team hosts the first two Big 12 opponents of the season with UCF on Friday (Feb. 28) and Houston on Sunday (March 1) at Mike Goss Tennis Stadium.

#73 Wildcats (3-4) begin the weekend at 4 p.m., on Friday against #44 UCF (8-1) before a midday match up against Houston (3-3) on Sunday at 12 p.m.

Parking for Mike Goss Tennis Stadium has been updated for weekday matches prior to 5 p.m. Due to the Denison Road closure, spectators can enter through Gate 9 on Kimball Ave., and park in lots C1 or C2 as pictured in the parking map. Parking in C2 will require payment through Park Mobile. More information about Park Mobile can be found at K-State Tennis A-Z.

The Cats and Knights met for the first time last season in Orlando, K-State falling 1-4. The Knights currently have two women in singles rankings, Sophia Biolay at no. 98 and Aya El Aouni at no. 122.

The Wildcats are looking for a consecutive victory over the Cougars in the third meeting between the two schools, K-State winning last year, 4-1, at Houston. That match marked the milestone 50th win for head coach Jordan Smith at the helm of the program.

In the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released on February 25, K-State was ranked at no. 73 for the first time this spring. The ranking comes after defeating then-no. 51 Iowa, 4-3, on February 22.

Also announced on Feb. 25 was sophomore Maralgoo Chogsomjav as Big 12 Player of the Week, the first honor for the Wildcats since 2021, after two singles victories and partnering up for a doubles win over a ranked opponent.

That 4-3 win over the Hawkeyes last weekend in Kansas City, Kan., marked the first win in almost a month, K-State claiming the doubles point prior to Chogsomjav and sophomore Tereza Polakova both battling into three sets and senior Veronika Kulhava clinching the match with a successful tiebreaker.

On February 23, in the last home match prior to conference play against #48 Rice, K-State fell short 4-1 against a consecutive ranked opponent.
