Cross Country Earns Nine Academic All-Big 12 Accolades

Three Wildcats earned the honor with 4.00 GPA

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State men's and women's cross country teams had 9 athletes earn academic All-Big 12 honors on Friday (Jan. 31).
 
Six women and three men were named, including three Wildcats with a 4.00 GPA—senior Alexa Rios, junior Cecilia Fisher and sophomore Devin Chappel.
 
The six other athletes include seniors Matthew Hauser, Tommy Hazen and Kate Kowalik, juniors Grace Meyer and Katie Schwartzkopf and sophomore Paige Baker.
 
This is a consecutive honor for Fisher, Hauser, Hazen, Kowalik, Meyer and Schwartzkopf.
 
BYU had the most athletes nominated in the conference with 36 Cougars, 22 men and 14 women, tied with Oklahoma State with the most 4.00 GPA accolades at nine each.
 
K-State is tied for 3rd  with three 4.00 nominations with Arizona, Colorado and Iowa State.
 
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.20 GPA or higher either cumulative or over the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20% of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
