K-State Returns to California for Silicon Valley Showcase
Mar 21, 2025 | Women's Golf
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Coming off a week of practice, the 30th-ranked Kansas State women's golf team returns to action on the west coast by competing in the Silicon Valley Showcase, Monday and Tuesday, at the par-71, 6,061-yard Green Hills Country Club in Millbrae, California.
Â
After competing in California for the first time since 2013 two weeks ago, this will be the second-straight event in which the Wildcats will play in The Golden State. K-State will look to rebound from an eighth-place finish its last time out at the Yale Invitational West in La Quinta.
Â
"We are looking forward to being back in action in San Francisco," head coach Stew Burke said. "Our goal with this event was to compete on a tough course to help us get ready for the postseason. Green Hills Country Club will produce a good challenge where good driving and putting will be rewarded. We have had some nice days to practice at home, and we put in some of the technical work over spring break that we had missed by competing the three weeks prior. We are ready to finish off this regular season on a high note to set us up for a great April push."
Â
Now in its third season, the Silicon Valley Showcase at Green Hills has proven to be a difficult test as the best 54-hole score of the event was a 5-over par 857 by back-to-back champion Pepperdine a year ago, while the Waves and Stanford shared the team title two years ago at 17-over par 869. No. 42 Pepperdine is in the field again along with host school Santa Clara, Boise State, Long Beach State, Nevada, San Francisco, UC Irvine and Wyoming.
Â
The Wildcats will send the same five members of the scoring lineup as the last two events in seniors Carla Bernat and Sophie Bert, sophomore Alenka Navarro, freshman Nanami Nakashima and junior Noa van Beek.
Â
Bernat, who ranks 23rd in the latest National Collegiate Golf Rankings, leads the team and currently ranks first in school history with a 70.00 scoring average this season, while her career average of 70.49 also ranks first in program history. A native of Castellon, Spain, Bernat has finished in the top 20 in all nine events, while she has seven top-10 finishes and five top-five showings.
Â
A transfer from East Tennessee State, Bert ranks second on the team with a 73.15 scoring average this season, which includes five top-10 finishes. She tied the school's lowest 54-hole score last month at the Westbrook Invitational with a 12-under par 204.
Â
Navarro ranks third on the team with a 73.39 scoring average and is followed closely by Nakashima at 73.54 and van Beek at 74.27. van Beek produced a top-10 finish two events ago at the MountainView Collegiate when she tied for seventh place.
Â
An 8:30 a.m. (PT) shotgun start begins play at the Silicon Valley Showcase both days with 36 holes being contested on Monday prior to Tuesday's final round. Live results can be followed on Golfstat.
