Mar 13, 2026 | Men's Golf
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Coming off two weeks of practice, the Kansas State men's golf team returns to The Palmetto State as the Wildcats take part in the Michael A. Marino Classic, Sunday through Tuesday, at the par-72, 7,370-yard Dunes Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
After tying for 12th place in the Colleton River Collegiate, K-State is looking to regroup four hours up the South Carolina coast as the Wildcats are playing in Myrtle Beach for the first time since March 2004.
"We are looking forward to playing this weekend in Myrtle Beach," head coach Grant Robbins said. "This is a PGA Tour course that will test every part of your game, one that you really need to drive it well to create scoring opportunities. We are going up against a very strong and deep field, and I know the guys are excited about the opportunity to go out and compete."
The Wildcats will go up against a 15-team field that features four teams ranked in the top 50 of the latest National Collegiate Golf Rankings in No. 33 Louisville, No. 37 UNLV, No. 47 Little Rock and No. 50 Florida Gulf Coast. The rest of the field includes Baylor, host-school Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Furman, Kent State, Liberty, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina State and North Florida.
For a third-straight event, K-State will send the lineup of seniors Alex Lindstrom and JP Roller, sophomore Fionn Dobbin and freshmen Oliver Toyer and Ville Virkkala.
Lindstrom and Virkkala lead the team in scoring average at 72.63 and 72.89, respectively. A native of Halmstad, Sweden, Lindstrom has two top-20 finishes this season, including a tie for first place in the Git-R-Done Invitational in September.
Virkkala, a product of Espoo, Finland, has a team-high tying three top-20 finishes, and he led the Wildcats the last time out with a tie for 28th place at 1-over par 217. Virkkala paces the squad by having 93.75% (15-of-16) of his rounds count toward the team score.
Toyer holds a 73.63 scoring average this season, and he is a member of the scoring lineup for a fourth-straight event. The Cambridgeshire, England, native is tied for first on the team with Lindstrom by recording six under-par rounds this season.
Dobbin enters his eighth event of his sophomore campaign with a 74.05 scoring average, just ahead of Roller's 74.73 mark. Dobbin has seen 84.21% (16-of-19) of his rounds count toward the team score this season to tie for third on the team. Roller is a fifth-year senior who holds a 73.57 career average over his time at Texas Tech and K-State.
Tee times for the Michael A. Marino Classic begin at 8 a.m. (ET) each day. Live results can be followed on SCOREBOARD powered by Clippd.
