Cats Tied for Eighth After One Round in Norman

NORMAN, Okla. – The Kansas State women's golf team posted a first-round total of 1-over par 281 on Saturday, as the Wildcats are in a tie for eighth place in the Schooner Fall Classic held at the par-70, 6,182-yard Belmar Golf Club.

The Wildcats are tied with UCF, and those two teams are four shots clear of a tie for 10th place between Baylor, Georgia and Tulane.

"We played some nice golf today and held it together when the wind got up near the end of the day," head coach Stew Burke said. "Having five players in it all day was huge. Although we did not get an under-par round, we take good momentum into tomorrow as a team. There is going to be weather, so it will be a good chance to move up."

K-State was led by a trio of players at even-par 70 in juniors Kelsey Chen and Nanami Nakashima along with sophomore Stalee Fields. Chen and Fields each recorded four birdies on the day, while Nakashima tallied two. Those three players enter Sunday's second round in a tie for 26th place.

One shot back and in a tie for 35th place is freshman Amy Wang, who carded a score of 1-over par 71 with three birdies during the opening round.

Competing in her first-career event, freshman Mia Ingham is in a tie for 67th place after a round of 4-over over par 74.

Sophomore Keen Visavapattamawan, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 21st place after recording an 18-hole score of 1-under par 69.

TCU holds a two-shot lead after producing a score 10-under par 270. The Horned Frogs are ahead of home-standing Oklahoma, while Iowa State is in third place at 6-under par 274.

Florida State's Haruhi Nakatani and Oklahoma State's Ellie Bushnell are tied atop the individual leaderboard following a round of 5-under par 65.

The Schooner Fall Classic continues on Sunday with a shotgun start to the second round beginning at 8:15 a.m. Live results can be followed on SCOREBOARD powered by Clippd.
