Manhattan, Kan. - The official dedication ceremony for Tointon Family Stadium will be held on Saturday, April 20 before Kansas State hosts Texas in a Big 12 Conference baseball game that day, athletic department officials said Wednesday.
The stadium dedication will be on the field prior to the Wildcats-Longhorns game. The dedication, which will include comments by K-State President Jon Wefald and Athletics Director Tim Weiser, as well as a traditional first-pitch ceremony, will begin at 1:45, with first pitch of the game scheduled for 2 p.m. The dedication will also recognize other contributors and friends of the program who were instrumental to the construction of the stadium.
The stadium is being dedicated in the names of Betty Brammell Tointon and Bob Tointon, each of whom are members of K-State's Class of '55. The Tointons were major contributors to the completion of the construction on the baseball stadium.
"This will be a special day for Wildcat baseball as we celebrate the progress we've made on the baseball facility," said Weiser. "We hope K-State fans from around the region can join us and thank the Tointon Family for such a generous contribution and their involvement in our baseball program."
Kansas State will also host an open house at the stadium that morning, with the facilities open to the public for free between 9:30 and 11 a.m. Fans will be able to tour the locker room, coaches offices, press box and suites. Wildcat players will also be on hand to sign autographs during that time.
Gates will re-open to the public for the game at 1 p.m.
The $3.1 million improvement project has transformed the 41-year-old stadium into one of the finest facilities in the Midwest. Every facet of the stadium has been improved from a new playing surface with state-of-the-art drainage and irrigation systems, to new dugouts to a new seating bowl with a capacity of more than 2,000 fans.
The project has included new locker rooms, offices, sports medicine and equipment rooms, as well as a new press box. Amenities for fans include permanent restroom and concession areas. The facility still includes the traditional manual scoreboard, reported to be the lone remaining scoreboard of its kind in Division I baseball.
