STANFORD, Calif. - Kansas State alumnus Nathan Leeper won the men's high jump title Sunday on the final day of the U.S. National Track and Field Championships being hosted by Stanford University.

Leeper, competing for Nike, won the event at 7 feet, 7.25 inches, clearing the winning height on his final attempt. Charles Clinger and Matt Hemingway tied for second at 7-6.

Leeper came from behind to win the competition, needing all three attempts to clear the final two heights. He made 7-4.25 on his second attempt and 7-6 on his third, after both Clinger and Hemingway made both on their first try.

After Leeper made 7-7.25 on his last attempt, he missed three attempts at 7-8.75.

Leeper, who shares Kansas State's school record with Ed Broxterman at 7-6.50, won the NCAA title in 1998 for the Wildcats. He is a volunteer assistant for the K-State track and field team.
