Former Wildcat Leeper Soars to High Jump Finals

Jul 15, 2004 | Track & Field

SACRAMENTO, Calif. Former Kansas State and 2000 Olympic high jumper Nathan Leeper has advanced to the finals of the men’s high jump at Alex G. Spanos Stadium in the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials. Current Wildcat Kyle Lancaster fell just short in his bid to make the 2004 Olympic team.

Leeper soared to a height of 7-02.50 on his second attempt. The height for the Protection, Kansas, native tied him with 16 other athletes for Sunday’s final. During Leeper’s career as a Wildcat he was a two-time NCAA All-American and is tied for the school mark in the high jump with a leap of 7-06.50.

Lancaster, coming off an All-American season in both the indoor and outdoor seasons, sprung to a height of 7-00.50, falling just outside of the qualifying distance. Lancaster is third on the all-time K-State list in the high jump at 7-06.00.

Sunday’s men’s high jump final will begin at 3:10 p.m. (PDT). For a full list of results and schedule of events, please visit www.usatf.org.
