Wildcats Edged by No. 14 Sooners

NORMAN, Okla. - Brittany Chambers scored 11 points to lead Kansas State but 14th-ranked Oklahoma used a strong second half to hold off the Wildcats down the stretch, 52-45, Wednesday night at Lloyd Noble Center.
With the loss, K-State fell to 11-4 overall and 1-1 in Big 12 play, while Oklahoma improved to 12-3 on the year and 2-0 in the league. Chambers was the lone Wildcat to score in double figures, while Mariah White and Taelor Karr each had nine points.
After holding the Sooners to just 15 points and 19 percent shooting in the first half, K-State maintained its lead early in the second half until Oklahoma used a 13-6 run to capture a 28-26 lead with 15:06 to play. A layup by Jalana Childs and a free throw by White pushed K-State back into the lead, 29-28, with 11:51 remaining until Oklahoma regained the lead for good at the 8:53 mark following two Joanna McFarland free throws.
The Wildcats would stay within striking distance the rest of the way but could not retake the lead. After the Sooners took a six-point advantage at 43-37 with 5:36 left, the Cats would claw back to within one at the 2:59 mark following a Karr jumper but Oklahoma managed to hold on late for the seven-point win.
Kansas State shot 34 percent for the contest, while Oklahoma finished at 32 percent. Neither team was efficient from three-point range as the Wildcats hit on just 2-of-12 attempts and the Sooners missed on all nine of their attempts. Oklahoma held the advantage on the boards, 44-37, and also in the turnover department as K-State committed 19 to the Sooners' 15.
Danielle Robinson led all scorers with 20 points for Oklahoma.
K-State withstood an early first-half 4-0 advantage by OU to go on an 8-0 run of its own. K-State's run was capped by a Chambers steal and fast break layup with 14:40 left in the first half, which forced an Oklahoma timeout.
The Wildcats were able to extend their advantage to seven at 20-13 as White beat the shot clock on a driving layup with 3:38 remaining. K-State entered the locker room with a 20-15 lead and was led in the first stanza by Karr's five points and Chambers' and Branshea Brown's four.
The K-State defense was up to the challenge in the opening half, holding the Sooners without a field goal for the final 9:25 and forcing Oklahoma to shoot 19.4 percent from the field and turn the ball over 10 times. The 15 points K-State surrendered to Oklahoma tied the Wildcats' season-low for points allowed in a half.
