Nine Wildcats Earn Academic All-Big 12 Selections

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Nine members of the K-State volleyball team, including seven first-team selections, were named to the Academic All-Big 12 Teams, as announced by the conference office Tuesday.
The nine selections were second-most in the conference to Baylor's 10 honorees. K-State's nine recipients equals its second-most ever for the award following a program-record 11 selections after the 2016 season.
Redshirt sophomore Sarah Dixon, junior Macy Flowers, junior Zsofia Gyimes, sophomore Elle Sandbothe, junior Alyssa Schultejans, senior Bryna Vogel and redshirt freshman Peyton Williams were all named First Team Academic All-Big 12.
Redshirt juniors Devan Fairfield and Kylee Zumach were both selected Second Team Academic All-Big 12 for the second straight season.
Vogel earns the third first-team honor of her distinguished career while Fairfield collects her third second-team award.
Flowers, Gyimes and Schultejans are each named First Team Academic All-Big 12 for the second straight season while Zumach was selected to the second team in back-to-back seasons.
Dixon, Sandbothe and Williams all earn their initial first-team academic honor in their first seasons of eligibility for the award.
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. A total of 62 student-athletes were honored as Academic All-Big 12, with 49 first-team selections and 13 members of the second team.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
K-State (9-17, 2-11 Big 12) continues its conference slate Wednesday when it travels to Waco, Texas, to take on No. 19 Baylor (21-5, 11-2 Big 12). The Cats' final road match of the league schedule will be broadcast on FOX Sports Southwest with first serve set for 6 p.m. Fans can also listen to Rob Voelker call the action on KMAN 93.3 FM, 1350 AM and streaming live on K-StateSports.com.
