MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State women's golf team looks to defend its home course as the Wildcats host the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational, Sunday through Tuesday, at the par-72, 6,235 Colbert Hills Golf Course.
The teams will play 18 holes per day on the with tee times beginning at 8 a.m., Sunday and Monday, and an 8 a.m., shotgun start on Tuesday.
All seven members of the team will compete in the event with Reid Isaac, Connie Jaffrey, Chloe Weir, Niamh McSherry and Tash Carlsson making up the scoring lineup. Freshmen Ella Adams and Darby Deans will compete in the event as individuals.
"I think the team is both practicing and playing well right now," head coach Kristi Knight said. "Playing with confidence and composure is key, especially on our home course."
The Wildcats are coming off a 10th-place finish in the Minnesota Invitational in which they improved their score each round and finished at 8-over par 872.
Isaac led the way for K-State last week in Minnesota, finishing inside the top 20 in her first collegiate tournament. The Montgomery, Texas native carded a 1-under par 215 and tied for 19th place.
This will be the 21st edition of the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational, an event that is hosted by K-State and Kansas in alternating years with the exception of last year as the tournament did not take place. K-State has won the Sunflower Invitational three times, including the 2014 season in Lawrence, while the Wildcats have placed in the top four in each of the last seven Sunflower Invitationals.
K-State will be joined at Colbert Hills by Arkansas State, Central Arkansas, Georgia Southern, Kansas, Little Rock, North Texas, Rutgers and Tulsa.
