
Efficient Wildcats Sweep Xavier Friday

ATLANTA – Behind a balanced attack in which K-State recorded a season-high in hitting efficiency, K-State swept Xavier (25-22, 25-19, 25-19) on the second day of the Georgia Tech Invitational at O'Keefe Gymnasium.
For the second straight match, K-State (4-4) had three players in double-figure kills – Kylee Zumach (14), Bryna Vogel (11) and Alyssa Schultejans (10) – as the Wildcats owned a 49-37 edge over Xavier (4-5) in total kills. Vogel and Schultejans each hit better than .400 in the match to help K-State to a season-best .352 attacking percentage (12e-105ta).
Vogel, a senior opposite, hit a match-high .450 (2e-20ta) and did not commit an attacking error over the match's final two sets while also leading the Cats with nine digs. After a first set that saw 12 tied scores and five lead changes, K-State trailed just once.
A redshirt junior, Zumach was the Wildcats' leader in kills for the seventh time in eight matches and added three blocks. Junior middle blocker Macy Flowers had four blocks to pace K-State.
Tied at 21 late in the opening set, a 4-1 Wildcat run that was capped by a triple block from Brynn Carlson, Flowers and Zumach gave the Cats a 1-0 match lead. Schultejans, Vogel and Zumach paced K-State with four kills apiece in the set. K-State had four service aces and 3.5 team blocks.
K-State tallied 17 kills against just two attacking errors (36 attempts) as it hit .417 and never trailed in the second set. The Wildcats opened an early four-point lead and ended game two by scoring five of the final six points, including back-to-back kills by Schultejans. Zumach chipped in six kills on 12 swings without an error.
The Musketeers' early 5-1 lead in the third set was quickly erased as K-State rattled off seven consecutive points for an 8-5 edge. The Wildcats never relinquished the lead on their way to a 25-19 third-set victory. Vogel and middle blocker Peyton Williams each had five kills on nine swings without committing an error (.556) in the set.
Setters Sarah Dixon and Brooke Smith dished out 28 and 11 assists, respectively, while also adding seven digs each.
K-State had a 7-1 advantage in service aces and out-dug Xavier, 45-37.
K-State will conclude the Georgia Tech Invitational Friday night as it takes on host Georgia Tech at 7 p.m. CT. The match vs. the Yellow Jackets can be seen on ESPN3, the WatchESPN app and ACC Network Plus.
