K-State’s Adams Records Top-15 Finish in Illinois
Oct 09, 2018 | Women's Golf
MEDINAH, Ill.– Entering the day in the top 15, Kansas State sophomore Ella Adams continued her strong performance on Tuesday as she carded an even-par 72 to total a career-low 54-hole score of 3-under par 213 in the Illini Women's Invitational at the par-72, 6,159-yard Medinah Country Club.
Adams, who tied for 13th place, started on the back nine and was 1-over par, but she birdied the par-4 ninth hole – her last of the day – to get back to even par.
The Wildcats, who shaved 10 strokes off their first-round score in the second 18, could not capitalize of the momentum as they dropped 10 strokes during round three, carding an 8-over par 296. K-State finished in 12thplace with a score of 14-over par 878.
"We did not get much going today," head coach Kristi Knight said. "The conditions were good for making birdies, but we just did not make enough this week. However, we were fourth in the field in pars made. I am proud of the effort. Ella had a good event."
Trailing Adams by eight strokes at 5-over par 221 – which included a 1-over par 73 on Tuesday – was senior Chloe Weir, who tied for 50th place. Three strokes behind Weir was sophomore Reid Isaac at 8-over par 224 to tie for 66th. Finishing out the effort for K-State was sophomore Niamh McSherry, who finished in 77th place at 12-over par 228, while freshman Briony Bayles finished in 82nd place with a score of 16-over par 232.
Purdue maintained its lead and took home the team title by carding a 27-under par 837, five strokes ahead of Kent State. Kent State teammates Michaela Finn and Karoline Stormo, as well as Sofia Garcia of Texas Tech, tied for first with score of 9-under par 207.
The Wildcats will be back in action Sunday through Tuesday as they travel to West Point, Mississippi, to compete in the Magnolia Invitational.
