
Wildcats Finish in Seventh at Seminole Intercollegiate

With the help of Jacob Eklund and Ben Fernandez each placing in the top 15 on the individual leaderboard, the Kansas State men's golf team moved up one spot to finish in seventh place on Sunday following the third round of the Seminole Intercollegiate at Golden Eagle Country Club.
The Wildcats posted a 6-over par 294 in the third round to finish their spring opener with a three-round score of 11-over par 875.
"I thought Jake, Ben and Jeremy (Gandon) all had a solid tournament," head coach Grant Robbins said. "The conditions were tougher today with the rain and more difficult hole locations.
"We just have to get more production from the (number) four and five spot. We will make some adjustments to the lineup and get ready for a quick turnaround at Auburn."
Eklund made a seven-shot improvement from the second round, climbing the leaderboard 18 spots to tie for eighth place. He totaled 15 birdies over the three rounds, including seven in the final 18 holes, as he turned in a 54-hole score of 3-under par 213.
Fernandez carded an even-par 72 on Sunday as he tied for for 11th place at 2-under par 214. Gandon played a consistent three rounds as he turned in a 1-over par 73 on Sunday after a pair of 72s in the first two rounds. Gandon came in at tied for 21st at 1-over par 217.
Freshmen Matthieu Caron and Kyle Vance rounded out the Wildcat lineup. Caron finished higher, at 15-over par 231 to tie for 60th place, while Vance fell to 73rd at 26-over par 242.
Florida State carded a 1-under par 287 in the final round to win the event by nine strokes at 20-under 844. Seminole golfer John Pak finished in first on the individual leaderboard with an 8-under par 208 score, three strokes ahead of a three-way tie for second place.
K-State will return to play next week, March 4-6, with the Tiger Intercollegiate in Opelika, Alabama.
