Mar 02, 2018 | Women's Golf
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State women's golf team will be back in action in Arizona on Monday and Tuesday as the Wildcats travel to Tucson to compete in the Arizona Wildcat Invitational at the par-72, 6,519-yard Sewailo Golf Club.
The two-day tournament will consist of a 7:30 a.m. (MT) shotgun start on Monday with 36 holes being played and an 8 a.m., shotgun start for the final round on Tuesday.
K-State will look to build upon low numbers from its spring opener where the Wildcats carded the second lowest team score in program history at 8-under par 856. Freshman Niamh McSherry and Ella Adams are both coming off career best 54-hole scores at 3-under par 213 and 3-over par 219, respectively.
Senior Connie Jaffrey is also looking to stay hot, coming off the eighth top-five finish of her career and the third-best individual 54-hole score in school history. The Kilwinning, Scotland native is leading the team with an impressive 71.50 stroke average.
"The ladies are ready to get back to Arizona and compete," head coach Kristi Knight said. "They played a lot of good golf in our first tournament. Sewailo is a good golf course that will provide a different challenge than Westbrook. This course rewards patience."
Kansas State's lineup will be the same as it was in the spring opener with Jaffrey, McSherry, Adams, Reid Issac and Darby Deans making the trip back to Arizona.
Joining the Wildcats in the tournament field will be host school Arizona along with Augusta, Denver, Grand Canyon, Iowa, Long Beach State, Missouri, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Portland State, Purdue, Texas, UCLA and UNLV.
