K-State’s Jaffrey Finishes Sixth in Arizona

Mar 06, 2018 | Women's Golf

TUCSON, Ariz. – Coming off a pair of under-par rounds on Monday, Kansas State senior women's golfer Connie Jaffrey turned in an even-par 72 score to finish in sixth place after the final round of the Arizona Wildcat Invitational on Tuesday at the par-72, 6,519-yard Sewailo Golf Club.

Jaffrey concluded the event with a 54-hole score of 3-under par 213 – tied for the ninth lowest tournament score in school history – as the Wildcats finished in 13th place at 38-over par 902.

"Connie had another solid finish," head coach Kristi Knight said. "She played very well today. Darby (Deans) had a very good round today as well. I am very happy for her."

Jaffrey recorded her fourth top-10 finish this year and 13th of her career to move into a tie for second place in school history.

Freshman Darby Deans also had a career day as she carded an 18-hole score of 2-over par 74. Deans finished the invitational in 73rd place at 17-over par 233.

Freshman Niamh McSherry tied for 62nd after carding a 15-over par 231. Rounding out the Cats was the freshman duo of Ella Adams, who carded an 18-over par 234 to tie for 74th, and Reid Isaac, who tied for 78th at 19-over par 235.

"This was a poor result for the team," Knight said. "It is disappointing, but it is a good learning experience."

UCLA took home the team title by nine strokes with a winning score of 17-under par 847. The Bruins' Lilia Vu won the individual title by carding an impressive 14-under par 202, beating out teammate Mariel Galdiano by three strokes.

Following a week off, the Wildcats will head back to Tucson, March 23-25, to compete in the MountainView Collegiate.
