Mar 25, 2018 | Women's Golf

TUCSON, Ariz. – Kansas State Senior Connie Jaffrey had another strong finish on Saturday as she finished in a tie for eighth place at the MountainView Collegiate Invitational at the par-72, 6,227-yard MountainView Golf Club.

Jaffrey carded an even-par 72 in the final round to finish with a total score of 2-over par 218, one stroke shy of a three-way tie for fifth and five strokes from the individual champion.

"Another Top 10 for Connie," head coach Kristi Knight said. "She did not hole as many putts which was frustrating for her, but she still had a solid event tying for eighth."

The Wildcats carded a 10-over par 298 during the final round for a 54-hole score of 34-over par 898. K-State finished in a eighth-place tie as a team with Wichita State. The Wildcats were eight strokes away from fifth place.

"As a team we are not playing well. It is something we will talk about as a group and get ready to play Maridoe next week," Knight added.

Following Jaffrey was freshman Niamh McSherry, who finished at 8-over par 224 to tie for 25th. Rounding out the Cats was the freshman trio of Ella Adams who finished tied for 37th with a score of 12-over par 228, Reid Issac who carded a 15-over par 231 tying for 52nd and Darby Deans who shot a 22-over par 238 to finish in 72nd.

Illinois took home the team title by carding an 11-over par 875, nine shots ahead of San Jose State and one ahead of third-place Missouri. San Jose State's Abegail Arevalo took home the individual title with a score of  3-under par 213, edging out the Illinois duo of Tristyn Nowlin and Grace Park by a single stroke.

The Wildcats will be back in action April 2-3 as they travel to Carrollton, Texas, to compete in the Bruzzy Challenge.
