Wildcats to Compete in Inaugural Bruzzy Challenge

Mar 30, 2018 | Women's Golf

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State women's golf team will be back in action next Monday and Tuesday for the inaugural Bruzzy Challenge in Carrollton, Texas. The event will be played on the par-72, 6,335-yard Maridoe Golf Club.

The two-day tournament will consist of an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start on both days with 36 holes being played on Monday and the final 18 holes on Tuesday.

"This is a new event on the college calendar. Maridoe Golf Club is a cool course outside of Dallas, which looks like it will require a variety of shots. It is similar to Trinity Forest, which we played in October," head coach Kristi Knight said as she referred to an event the Wildcats won to close out their fall slate.

K-State will be led by senior standout Connie Jaffrey. Jaffrey, who ranks No. 47 nationally in the most recent Golfstat rankings, has had a very impressive spring with top-10 finishes in all three tournaments. The Kilwinning, Scotland, native enters the event with a team-best stroke average of 71.58.

Kansas State's lineup will feature Jaffrey, along with freshmen Reid Isaac, Niamh McSherry, Ella Adams and Darby Deans. The quartet of freshmen rank second nationally with a 75.71 stroke average, just over a stroke per round behind No. 1 squad Vanderbilt. Isaac leads the Wildcat freshmen with a 74.13 stroke average to go along with three top-10 finishes and a pair of top-five showings.

Joining Kansas State in the field will be Boston College, Brigham Young, Houston, Iowa, Missouri, North Texas, San Diego State, SMU, Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Tech, UTSA and UT Arlington. Houston enters the event ranked 26th in the nation according to Golfstat, while Texas A&M in 38th and Texas Tech is 50th.

Live scoring of the Bruzzy Challenge can be followed at www.golfstat.com Results will be available at www.kstatesports.com at the conclusion of play on both days.
