K-State Climbs Two Spots on Final Day of Bruzzy Challenge

Apr 03, 2018 | Women's Golf

CARROLLTON, Texas – The Kansas State women's golf team made an improvement during the final round of the Bruzzy Challenge on Tuesday, jumping two spots to finish 13th at the par-72, 6,335-yard Maridoe Golf Club. The Wildcats, who finished at 88-over par 952 for the event, had the fourth-best score during the final round at 25-over par 313.

K-State was led by the freshman duo of Niamh McSherry and Reid Isaac, as they tied for 45th place at 22-over par 238.

"We moved up," head coach Kristi Knight said. "I am obviously disappointed in how we played but proud of the ladies for coming out today and showing character. We will regroup. This is a talented team that is pressing right now and not playing to our ability. They have good instincts. We will get back to playing with trust."

Maridoe Golf Club proved to be challenging as no team was under 900 for the event and the winning score on the individual leaderboard was even par.

Isaac was one of two Wildcats who made double-digits jumps on the leaderboard, climbing 17 spots thanks to a 5-over par 77 during the final round.

Senior Connie Jaffrey propelled 19 spots up the leaderboard with a strong final round of 3-over par 72. She tied for 51st with a score of 23-over par 239. Rounding out the Cats were freshmen Ella Adams and Darby Deans, who carded a 30-over par 246 and a 34-over par 250, respectively. Adams tied for 69th, while Deans tied for 74th.

Texas A&M took home the team title with a 43-over par 907 as the Aggies claimed a two-stroke win over Iowa State and Houston. Maddie Szeryk of Texas A&M took home the individual title by carding an impressive even-par 216. Greta Bruner of TCU finished in second at 4-over par 220, topping Houston's Megan Thothong by two strokes.

The Wildcats will be back in action April 20-22, as they travel to Dallas, Texas, to compete in the Big 12 Championship.
