Jaffrey Ties for 11th at Big 12 Championship, Awaits NCAA Bid

Apr 22, 2018 | Women's Golf

DALLAS, Texas – Kansas State senior women's golfer Connie Jaffrey carded a 2-over par 74 on Sunday as she finished in a tie for 11th place following the final round of the 2018 Big 12 Championship at the par-72, 6,215-yard Dallas Athletic Club.

As a team, the Wildcats finished in eighth place at 63-over par 927, just three shots shy of seventh-place TCU.

Competing in her final conference championship, Jaffrey recorded her best score and placing in the event as the Kilwinning, Scotland, native tallied a 54-hole score of 7-over par 223. Jaffrey, who entered the week ranked 61st nationally by Golfstat, will now await an individual bid to the NCAA Regionals, which will be announced on Wednesday.

"Connie played well in gusty conditions," head coach Kristi Knight said. "She has had a strong senior season and it will continue in two weeks at the NCAA's.

"I know the team wanted to finish strong, but we just did not play well any round as a team," Knight continued. "The younger returning players have received great experience this season – both winning and disappointment. This is a great group of young ladies."

Following Jaffrey on the leaderboard was freshman Ella Adams, who tied for 29th at 15-over par 231, while Niamh McSherry tied for 35th at 19-over par 235. Reid Isaac concluded her season in a tie for 42nd at 28-over par 244, while Darby Deans finished in 45th place at 37-over par 253.

Texas took home the Big 12 title for a second-straight year after carding a 16-over par 880, eight shots better than a tie for second between Baylor and Oklahoma State. Iowa State's Celia Tarquin Arozamena took home the individual title with an impressive 3-under par 213.

The 2018 NCAA Regional selection show will begin at 4:30 p.m., on Wednesday and will be televised live on Golf Channel. Jaffrey, who played on K-State's NCAA Regional team a season ago, is attempting to earn the third Wildcat individual bid in the last four years as Madison Talley was selected in 2015 and 2016.
