K-State Opens Big 12 Play Friday at No. 15 TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Kansas State baseball team begins its Big 12 schedule as it visits No. 15 TCU for a three-game series beginning Friday at Lupton Stadium.

K-State (12-9) just completed a 13-game homestand in which it went 8-5, including series victories over La Salle and Mercer. The Wildcats have dropped their last six meetings to TCU (11-7).

Saturday's game will be broadcast on FOX Sports Southwest while the series finale on Sunday will be televised on FOX Sports Southwest Plus. Friday's game can be streamed online at GoFrogs.com (paid).

The entire three-game series will have live audio also streamed at k-statesports.com and fans in the Manhattan area can also listen to action on KMAN (93.3 FM, 1350 AM).

A LOOK AT K-STATE
Kansas State opens its Big 12 schedule as it concluded a 13-game homestand, going 8-5 in that stretch ... The Wildcats are 5-5 in their last 10 games after a midweek split of a two-game series with Austin Peay .... K-State put up a season-high 15 runs in a Tuesday night win ... The Governors evened the series with a 4-2 victory in which they scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning ... Sophomore Will Brennan pushed his on-base streak to 44 games, going back to last season, and owns the nation's longest active streak.
 
A LOOK AT TCU
TCU (11-7) begins its conference schedule Friday as high as No. 20 in the major polls ... The Horned Frogs have won either the Big 12 regular season or tournament title in each of the last four years ... TCU is second in the conference in team ERA (2.99), led by Friday night starter Jared Janczak and his 2.35 ERA in 31.0 innings pitched ... Junior Josh Watson leads the Frogs with a .343 average, four homers and 16 runs batted in.
 
A LOOK AT THE SERIES
K-State trails the all-time series with TCU, 7-16, including a 4-11 record in Big 12 games ... TCU has won 11 of 14 matchups all-time in Fort Worth and have swept both home conference weekend series (2014, 2016) ... The Frogs took all three games at Tointon Family Stadium last season and have won the last six matchups overall ... The Cats last defeated TCU on April 12, 2015, a 6-2 win in Manhattan ... The Frogs have been ranked in the last 12 meetings in the series (K-State is 2-10 in those games) ... K-State's Will Brennan and Drew Mount each took home weekly honors from the Big 12 on Monday, March 12, as Brennan was named the conference's Player of the Week while Mount was recognized as Newcomer of the Week ... Mount's became the first player in Big 12 history to be named Newcomer of the Week in three consecutive weeks since the award was introduced in 2011 ... The junior-college transfer matched the most weekly honors in a single season with three through the season's first four weeks ... Mount was also recognized by Collegiate Baseball by being named one of 10 National Players of the Week by the publication ... Brennan earns his first Player of the Week award from the league after earning Newcomer of the Week twice last season as part of his freshman all-America campaign.
 
 
FRIENDLY CONFINES OF TOINTON
K-State completed an 8-5 homestand and won its first four home games for the sixth straight season as the Cats have won six of their first seven games at home this season ... In K-State's 8-5 home start this season, it boasted a slash line of .307/.408/.462 with nine home runs and 45 extra-base hits ... K-State averaged 7.3 runs per game and 10.5 hits per game during the homestand ... In 2017, K-State posted a 15-5 (.750) home nonconference mark.

Sophomore Will Brennan has reached base in 44 straight games, dating back to last season ... His career-long streak is the longest active streak in the country and goes back to April 13, 2017 against Texas Tech ... Brennan's .495 on-base percentage leads the team and is third-highest in the Big 12 ... Hitting leadoff in every game this year, he remains the toughest player in the conference to strike out, with four strikeouts in 93 at-bats (1 every 23.3 at-bats), and ranks eighth in the country ... As a freshman, Brennan led the league in the category going 15.3 at-bats for every strikeout.

MOUNT CRUSHMORE
K-State junior-transfer Drew Mount was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for three straight weeks from February 26-March 12 ... He is the first player in Big 12 history to earn the distinction in three consecutive weeks since the award's inception in 2011 ... March 9 against Mercer, Mount became the first Wildcat to hit two grand slams in one game since 1994 and he is just the third player in Big 12 history to accomplish the feat - and the first since 1998 ... He is the Big 12 leader in home runs (7) and RBI (30), ranking sixth in runs batted in in the country... He also leads the Big 12 in stolen bases (15) and slugging (.708).  ... Mount ranks second in the nation with his 15 stolen bases.
