Wildcats in Second After Day One of Tiger Invitational
Apr 09, 2018 | Men's Golf
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Led Led by junior Jeremy Gandon, the Kansas State men's golf team is in second place following the first day of the Tiger Invitational at the Club at Old Hawthorne on Monday.
K-State – which has three individuals in the top seven – is at 9-under par, three shots back of host school Missouri in the middle of the second round. The start of the tournament was delayed until 11 a.m., and play was suspended due to darkness during the second round.
Backed by seven birdies, Gandon is tied for second place at 5-under par, which included a 4-under par 68 in round one. He is just three strokes behind individual leader Hayden Buckley of Missouri. Jacob Eklund and Roland Massimino are each tied for seventh place at 3-under par.
"Overall it was a solid day for us," said head coach Grant Robbins, whose team shot a 281 in round one to tie for the lowest round of the season. "We are in good position, but we have a lot of holes left. We just need to stay committed to the process and finish strong tomorrow."
Eklund posted the Wildcats' best first-round score at 5-under par 67, while Massimino had climbed seven spots in the second round before play was halted.
Ben Fernandez and JC Campbell are tied for 48th place at 4-over par. Competing as individuals, Connor Chesky and Kyle Vance look to improve during the second round of the tournament. Vance is tied for 77th at 9-over par, while Chesky is tied for 93rd at 12-over par.
The second round of the Tiger Invitational will resume on Tuesday at 8 a.m., followed by the final round. Live scoring can be followed at www.golfstat.com, while a complete recap can be found at www.k-statesports.com following the conclusion of the tournament.
