
Shadae Lawrence Wins Discus Title at Jamaica National Championships

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State track and field junior Shadae Lawrence claimed the Jamaica National Championship in the women's discus at the Jamaica National Senior Championships, throwing 61.44m/201-07 at National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica on Friday.
Lawrence's winning throw of 61.44m/201-07 is the third time she has cleared the 60-meter barrier this season, after throwing a season-best 61.08m/200-05 at the NCAA West Preliminary on May 26. Lawrence followed up her performance by placing second at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, where she finished with a throw of 59.68m/195-10.
On Friday, Lawrence returned to the discus ring, where she won the event by over four meters with her winning mark of 61.44m/201-07. At the 2016 Jamaica Championships, Lawrence placed second with a throw of 58.95m/193-05.
In addition to Lawrence's performance, sophomore Jullane Walker competed at the Jamaica Championships on Friday, where he placed 11th in the men's 100-meter semifinal, clocking 10.57 (-1.5). In the first round of heats on Thursday, Walker ran a qualifying time of 10.29 to tie a personal best set earlier this year at the NCAA West Preliminary.
The Jamaica Senior National Championships will continue Saturday with Walker competing in the men's long jump at 5:10 p.m. CT and former Wildcat Kim Williamson competing in the women's high jump final at 7:00 p.m. CT.
Two Wildcats will also be in action at the USATF Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, on Saturday, as senior Terrell Smith will open with the men's 200 meters first round at 1:10 p.m., and senior Janee' Kassanavoid with throw in the women's hammer final at 2:20 p.m.
