Jan 31, 2019 | Track & Field

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State men's and women's track and field teams will make their third road trip of the indoor season this weekend, as the Wildcats travel to Lincoln, Nebraska to compete in the 44th annual Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational on February 1-2.

The action-packed weekend begins on Friday at noon, beginning with the combined events, before field events begin at 4:30 p.m., followed by track events at 6 p.m. Saturday kicks off with the combined events beginning at 9:30 a.m., while track and field events pick up at 11:30 a.m.

The meet features 35 teams in total, including Division I competitors, Drake, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Maryland, Nebraska and Missouri, among others. The No. 15 ranked K-State men are one of six teams ranked in the top-25 of the week two USTFCCCA Ratings Index, including Georgia's No. 6 ranked men's and No. 9 ranked women's teams, Stanford's No. 11 ranked men's and No. 15 ranked women's teams and Illinois' No. 25 ranked men's team.

The Wildcats are coming off an impressive performance at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas a week ago, where the K-State women placed fifth overall as a team. Individually, senior Shardia Lawrence jumped the No. 3 mark in the NCAA in the women's triple jump, en route to earning her first-career Big 12 Athlete of the Week honor.

In the men's heptathlon, junior Aaron Booth recorded the No. 3 score in the country by scoring a New Zealand national record 5,819 points, at the Razorback Invitational ousting the previous record of 5.758 held by Brent Newdick set in 2012.

In addition, K-State was led by two event victories from senior Brett Neelly in the men's shot put and junior Helene Ingvaldsen in the women's weight throw, while redshirt freshman Kassidy Johnson and sophomore Taylor Latimer cracked the K-State top-10 all-time lists in the women's 800 meters and shot put, respectively.

This weekend's Husker Invitational marks the sixth meet of the season for the Wildcats, as K-State has already posted a series of impressive marks this season, including nine individuals ranking in the top-20 of the NCAA in their respective event, including four of which rank in the top-5.

In the Husker Invitational's 44-year history, this year marks the third time competing in the meet in the last four years with the Wildcats competing at the Husker Invitational dating back to 1984.

Following the Husker Invitational, the Wildcats will wrap up their road trip by traveling to Lubbock, Texas to compete in the Texas Tech Shootout on February 8-9. The Wildcats will then return home to Ahearn Field House, where they will compete in the Steve Miller Open on February 16.
