Kuck Named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week
Oct 21, 2019 | Volleyball
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Following her career-high 36 digs at Oklahoma on Wednesday, K-State defensive specialist/libero Dru Kuck was tabbed Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Kuck, a 5-foot-5 freshman, helped the Wildcats register a program-record 119 digs against the Sooners. Kuck's dig total equaled the third-highest mark in K-State history during the rally-scoring era (since 2001) and is the most turned in by any player in the Big 12 this season.
The Sheboygan, Wisconsin, product was the first Wildcat to reach 30 or more digs since 2015 (Kersten Kober). Her performance was just the sixth time a Wildcat has reached at least 36 digs in program history.
Kuck takes home her first career conference honor as she earns K-State's first Big 12 weekly award of the season. She is the first Cat to be named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week since Macy Flowers on November 20, 2017 and the first K-State freshman to earn the honor since the award began in 2007.
K-State's 119 digs Wednesday night set a single-season high by any Big 12 program and was the sixth-highest total in a five-set match this season in the country.
The Wildcats (6-12, 1-5 Big 12) take on KU (6-10, 2-4 Big 12) in the season's first Dillons Sunflower Showdown on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Ahearn Field House. The match will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU and available on the ESPN app. Rob Voelker will also have the call on News Radio KMAN (93.3 FM, 1350 AM).
Fans can purchase a Wednesday Wildcat 4-Pack ticket package, which includes four general admission tickets and a $10 concessions voucher for just $38. Tickets are available at K-StateSports.com/Tickets.
