
Seven Wildcats Named to Academic All-Big 12 First Team

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State earned seven selections to the 2019 Academic All-Big 12 First Team, highlighted by 4.0 grade-point averages from Brynn Carlson, Sarah Dixon and Mckenzi Weber, as the conference office announced its annual Academic All-Big 12 Teams Thursday.
K-State led the Big 12 with three student-athletes boasting a 4.0 grade-point averages, as Carlson, Dixon and Weber accounted for three of the seven perfect GPAs in the conference.
Joining Carlson, Dixon and Weber on the first team are redshirt freshman Abigail Archibong, redshirt sophomore Jacque Smith, redshirt sophomore Megan Vernon and redshirt sophomore Peyton Williams.
Dixon and Williams each collect the third Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors of their respective careers while Carlson, Smith and Weber earn their second-career awards. Archibong and Vernon made their way onto the Academic All-Big 12 First Team for the first time.
K-State has had at least seven first-team honorees in each of the last four seasons, including a program-record 12 first-team selections a year ago. Since 2015, 46 Wildcats have received Academic All-Big 12 accolades with 41 being named to the first team.
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. A total of 72 student-athletes were honored as Academic All-Big 12, with 61 first-team selections and 11 members of the second team.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
K-State (8-18, 3-11 Big 12) will honor its senior class following Saturday's home finale against No. 3 Baylor at 3 p.m. The match will air on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ and on the ESPN app. Fans can also listen to Rob Voelker call the action on News Radio KMAN (93.3 FM, 1350 AM) and streaming live on K-StateSports.com/watch.
