Nov 25, 2019 | Women's Basketball
MANHATTAN, Kansas – Kansas State redshirt freshman Ayoka Lee collected her first piece of hardware on Monday, as she was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week. She is the fourth player in the Jeff Mittie era at K-State to earn Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors.
The center from Byron, Minnesota, continued her dominance in the lane last week, averaging a double-double with 13.0 points and 12 rebounds, a field goal percentage of 64.3 and 2.5 blocks.
Against Oral Roberts, Lee tallied her second double-double of the season with a career-high 20 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks. With her second double-double, Lee is the first freshman (true or redshirt) in program history to register two double-doubles in her first three career games. She was one of four freshmen in the nation this season to register a pair of double-doubles in her first three career games.
Against UT Arlington, Lee drew the attention of the defense all afternoon and tallied six points, a career-high 13 rebounds and three blocks in a career-best 32 minutes of action.
For the season, Lee is averaging a double-double with 12.5 points to go with 11.0 rebounds per game. She leads all league freshmen in rebounds per game and blocks per game (3.3) and ranks eighth in the nation in blocks per game.
Up next for Lee and the Wildcats is the 17th annual Junkanoo Jam in Bimini, Bahamas, on Friday and Saturday. Kansas State, Memphis, LSU and (15/16) Michigan State make up the Bimini Division of the event.
