K-State Continues Homestand vs. No. 31 Washington State, Saturday Doubleheader

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State women's tennis will continue its homestand against No. 31 Washington State on Thursday at 12 p.m., then turn around and take on Iowa and UMKC in a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Body First Indoor Tennis Center.
No. 37 K-State is on a four-match winning streak after defeating the 39th-ranked SMU Mustangs this past Thursday, 4-3, then sweeping Cincinnati on Saturday, 4-0, pushing its season record to 7-2. The match against UMKC was originally scheduled for last Saturday, but was rescheduled due to inclement weather.
French freshman Karine-Marion Job improved her season record to 7-1 after defeating the Bearcats' Alexia Coutino, 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore Margot Decker defeated Ioana Guna, 7-6, 6-3, and sophomore Maria Linares picked up a three-set victory over Caroline Morton, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
The Wildcats picked up the doubles point after Decker and Anna Turco won their matchup, 6-1, as well as Job and Ines Mesquita, 6-3.
After Saturday, the Wildcats are now 28-16 in singles and 12-11 in doubles.
The Washington State Cougars come into Manhattan on Thursday after losing to Gonzaga at home, 5-2.
The Cougars have a 10-2 record and are led by No. 35 Michaela Bayerlova and No. 106 Melisa Ates in singles. Bayerlova has a record of 11-2, while Ates leads the team with a 16-1 record. In doubles, Tiffany Mylonas and Hikaru Sato lead the team, 15-3.
K-State has an all-time record against Washington State of 3-1, including 4-3 victories over WSU in each of the last two seasons.
The Iowa Hawkeyes are on a two-match losing streak and are currently 7-2 overall. The Hawkeyes last hosted Penn State at home, where they lost 4-3.
Sophie Clark and Elise van Heuvelen lead the team with 7-1 and 7-2 records, respectively, in singles. Adorabl Huckleby and van Heuvelen lead the in doubles with a 6-2 mark.
The Wildcats are 2-6 all-time against the Hawkeyes and are 0-3 at home..
UMKC competed at home against the Missouri State Bears on Friday and snapped its two-match skid with a 4-0 win over the Bears. The Kangaroos improved their record to 3-5.
Yana Grechkina leads the team with a 6-4 record in singles, while Katie Fries and Thanushree Vale lead doubles, 3-4. K-State is 5-0 all-time against the Kangaroos and is 3-0 at home.
