
Cats Continue Road Swing Against Longhorns, Bears

MANHATTAN, Kan.?– The 36th-ranked K-State Wildcats will continue their four-match road swing to begin Big 12 play as they take on No. 18 Texas on Friday before facing the Baylor Bears on Sunday.
K-State (10-5, 0-2 Big 12) will face its fourth consecutive ranked opponent in the Longhorns (7-3, 0-0 Big 12). Texas opens its Big 12 slate against the Wildcats and boasts a 5-3 record against nationally ranked opponents.
The Cats and Longhorns meet at Texas Tennis Center at 3 p.m. on Friday. K-State has never defeated Texas (0-28) and is 0-11 all-time in Austin.
Baylor (5-14, 0-1 Big 12) enters the weekend having dropped 13 straight matches, including three consecutive ranked matchups. The Bears lost their conference opener to TCU 6-1 back on March 7. K-State defeated BU last season, 4-3 at Mike Goss Tennis Stadium.
The Cats and Bears are set to face off on Sunday at 1 p.m., at Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
Last weekend, the Wildcats lost to the No. 30 Oklahoma Sooners, 5-2, and the No. 11 Oklahoma State Cowgirls, 6-1.
Sophomore Maria Linares captured the spotlight as she picked up the lone singles victory on Sunday against one of the Cowgirls, defeating then-ranked No. 117 Lisa Marie Rioux, 6-3, 6-4.
On Friday against the Sooners, Linares also bested Martina Cappuro, 7-6 (4), 6-3, while freshman Karine-Marion Job picked up a win over Jasmine Ashgar, 5-7, 6-3, 6-0.
The No. 18 Longhorns came out on top this past weekend against No. 34 Illinois, 6-1. Illinois secured the doubles point before UT claimed all six singles matches.
No. 42 Anna Turati leads the team with a record of 5-2. Texas also has three other ranked singles players, including No. 52 Petra Granic, No. 75 Bianca Turati and No. 105 Bojana Markovic.
The Baylor Bears will be hosting K-State on Sunday following a loss to USC, 4-2. This season, the Bears are currently 0-6 against ranked teams.
In singles, Jessica Hinojosa leads the team with a 11-7 record, and is seen leading in doubles as well with partner Kris Sokolet, 3-3.
K-State is 5-24 all-time against Baylor, with a 1-15 record on the road.
