Cats with Big 12 Home Opener Against TCU, Texas Tech

MANHATTAN, Kan.?– After a four-match road trip to open Big 12 play, the 48th ranked K-State Wildcats return home this weekend to take on TCU on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and No. 25 Texas Tech at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Both matches are scheduled to take place at Mike Goss Tennis Stadium, if weather allows. If weather does not permit, the Cats will move indoors to Body First Indoor Tennis Center,
This past weekend, K-State lost to No. 18 Texas, 6-1, on Friday. Freshman Ioana Gheorghita picked up the lone singles win that day from the No. 6 spot against the Longhorns' Tijana Spasojevic, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. Gheorghita has won her last two singles matches.
K-State then traveled over to Waco and lost a tightly contested match to the Baylor Bears, 4-3. K-State picked up the doubles points after wins by freshman Karine-Marion Job and junior Ines Mesquita on court two, 6-4, and by Gheorghita and sophomore Maria Linares, 6-1.
In singles competition, sophomore Anna Turco won her matchup over Kris Sorokolet, 6-3, 6-0, and Gheorghita picked up her second singles win of the weekend over Stephanie Adames, 6-2, 6-2.
The TCU Horned Frogs (11-5, 3-1 Big 12) arrive in Manhattan on Friday after picking up a win against the SMU Mustangs, 5-2. In singles, the team is led by No. 112 Ellie Douglas, who has a record of 8-4. In doubles, the duo of Douglas and Aleksa Cveticanin come in at No. 27, with a record of 10-1.
K-State defeated the Horned Frogs last season in Fort Worth, 4-3, for the first time in program history. The Cats are now 1-8 all-time against TCU and 0-2 at home.
On Sunday, the Wildcats will welcome in the Red Raiders (13-4, 3-0 Big 12), who have won their last six matches. TTU is 2-4 against nationally ranked opponents and faces No. 17 Kansas in Lawrence on Friday.
Texas Tech's roster ss headlined by Felicity Maltby, who enters the weekend ranked as the No. 48 singles player in the country. Maltby is 12-4 in the spring season and has played every match at the top spot in the lineup.
K-State is 12-20 all-time against the Red Raiders, with a 6-6 mark in Manhattan.
