
K-State Puts Together Solid Second Round at Big 12 Championship

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WVa. – The Kansas State men's golf team made a 17-shot improvement from the morning to the afternoon during the first and second rounds of the 2019 Big 12 Men's Golf Championship on Saturday at The Greenbrier.
The Wildcats, who were 15-over par 295 in round one, improved two places in the second round thanks to a 2-under par 278. K-State, ranked 64th nationally in the latest Golfstat rankings, finished day one of the championship at 13-over par 573 to reside in eighth place. Kansas State is two strokes ahead of No. 48 West Virginia and four shots ahead of 37th-ranked Kansas, while the Wildcats are four strokes behind 31st-ranked Iowa State.
Senior Jeremy Gandon led the Wildcats during the first day, shooting even-par 140 to enter Sunday's final round tied for 15th. Senior Roland Massimino moved up 14 spots in round two with a 2-under par 68, and he is currently tied for 21st at 2-over par 142. Junior Ben Fernandez also improved in round two, moving up seven spots to finish the day at 5-over par 145 and in a tie for 33rd.
Junior Jacob Eklund carded a 36-hole score of 7-over par 147 and is tied for 37th, while freshman Will Hopkins was one stroke behind Eklund at 8-over par 148 and is tied for 41st.
Oklahoma State, the No. 1 team in the nation, heads into Sunday's final round in first place. The Cowboys'resounding second round of 12-under par 268 gave the Oklahoma State an eight-stroke lead over 33rd-ranked TCU and a 12-stroke advantage over No. 6 Texas and No. 7 Oklahoma.
Oklahoma State's Viktor Hovland – the low amateur at this year's Master's – and TCU's HaydenSpringer sit atop the leaderboard after day one at 8-under par 132. Both players enter Sunday with a three-stroke lead.
Kansas State will tee off the final round of the 2019 Big 12 Championship at 8:22 a.m. (ET) off hole No. 10 as the Wildcats are paired with Iowa State. Live scoring of the final round can be followed at www.golfstat.com.
