Jan 27, 2020 | Women's Basketball
MANHATTAN, Kansas – Kansas State's Ayoka Lee continued her low post dominance in league play last week, as she earned her seventh Big 12 Freshman of the Week honor in an announcement from the league office on Monday.
Lee is tied for second in league history with seven Big 12 Freshman or Newcomer of the Week honors in a season. She is the fifth player in Big 12 history with seven or more freshman of the week honors and the first since Joyner Holmes in the 2016-17 season.
For the week, Lee averaged a double-double of 17.5 points with a field goal percentage of 66.7 percent, 13.5 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 1.0 steals.
Against Oklahoma on Saturday, Lee recorded her finest game of the season with 23 points on 10-of-13 shooting, a school record-tying and career-high 20 rebounds, five blocks and two steals. Lee is the first player in program history with a double-double of 20 or more points and 20 or more rebounds. She is just the ninth player in the last 10 years in NCAA Division I women's basketball with 20 or more points, 20 or more rebounds, five or more blocks and two or more steals.
Lee was the fourth player in program history to pull in 20 rebounds in a game and the first since Shalee Lehning on December 6, 2005, against Louisiana Tech. Her 20 rebounds are tied for the second-most by a freshman in the nation this season.
This was her ninth double-double of the season and her third career double-double which included five or more blocks.
Lee opened her week with 12 points, seven rebounds and two blocks at Iowa State.
For the season, Lee leads all Big 12 freshmen in scoring (15.4 ppg), field goal percentage (.575), rebounds (10.9 rpg), blocks (2.6 bpg), offensive rebounds (4.1 orpg) and defensive rebounds (6.8 drpg).
K-State will remain in the state of Kansas, as the Wildcats travel to Lawrence, Kansas, to face Kansas in the Dillons Sunflower Showdown on Wednesday at 8 p.m. Wednesday's game will available on FSN and on the K-State Sports Network and for free at kstatesports.com.
