K-State Makes Midweek Stop at Wichita State

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State concludes its season-opening eight-game road trip with a Wednesday afternoon matchup with Wichita State, with first pitch set for 3 p.m. at Eck Stadium.

K-State (3-4) finished the 2020 Kleberg Bank College Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas, with a 1-2 mark. The Wildcats upended former league-foe Missouri before falling to host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Utah.

Senior Kasey Ford is scheduled to make his second start of the season for the Cats. Ford struck out seven over 5 1/3 innings in picking up a victory at UTRGV in his first outing of 2020.

The Cats are 11-3 against the Shockers (4-2) since 2013 after the sides split the annual home-and-home series last season.

A LOOK AT K-STATE
Following a seven-game trip through south Texas, K-State returns to the Sunflower State to renew a rivalry with Wichita State Wednesday afternoon ... The Wildcats went 3-4 over the season's first two opening weekend, splitting a four-game set at UTRGV before going 1-2 at the Kleberg Bank College Classic in Corpus Christi ... K-State defeated former conference rival Missouri Friday, 5-1, behind six innings turned in by starter Connor McCullough and a two-run home run by Chris Ceballos ... McCullough punched out eight in turning in his second straight quality start (6 IP, 1 ER) and earning his first collegiate victory ... The Cats dropped the final two games of the roadtrip against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Utah despite leading in both contests ... Sunday, K-State carried a combined no-hitter into the ninth innings behind seven hitless innings from starter Jordan Wicks, who struck out a career-high 10 batters ... Tyler Eckberg tossed a perfect eighth before allowing a leadoff single to the Utes' Matt Richardson, the only hit Utah registered on the day ... Utah would later walk off when the Cats failed to turn an inning-ending double play ... Offensively, Daniel Carinci led the Cats last weekend with five hits, including a double, while Kamron Willman drove in three.

Wichita State, who hosts Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday, swept Texas Southern over the weekend to improve to 4-2 ... Couper Cornblum leads the Shocker offense with his .368 average (7 for 19) and three extra-base hits, including a home run, and three RBI ... The WSU pitching staff boasts a 3.12 ERA while limiting opponents to a .158 average ... Wichita State hurlers have struck out 70 batters over 52 innings ... Projected starter Tommy Barnhouse will make his season debut and his 23rd career start as a Shocker.

If the Pasadena, Texas, product starts all 56 scheduled regular-season games in 2020, he would move into second in program history with 223 career starts ...
