MANHATTAN, Kansas – Kansas State women's basketball head coach Jeff Mittie has added guard/forward Makayla Pippin to the 2020-21 roster. Pippin joins the Wildcats from Central Arizona College and will have two seasons of eligibility with the Wildcats.
Pippin joins an incoming class for the 2020-21 season that includes: graduate transfer Sydney Goodson (Argyle, Texas), freshman Taylor Lauterbach (Appleton, Wisconsin) and freshman Jada Moore (Denver, Colorado).
Pippin capped her 2019-20 season as a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Women's Basketball Third-Team All-American. She was the 15th ranked junior college player in the nation by Girls Basketball Report in the 2019-20 season.
As a member of the high school class of 2018, Pippin was ranked as the eighth ranked forward in the nation and 149th ranked overall prospect by ProspectsNation.com. She was the 19th ranked forward in the nation by ESPNW Hoopgurlz.
"We are thrilled to add Makayla to our roster," said Mittie. "She is a versatile player that can face and attack while also possessing a nice three-point shot. We loved her toughness and relentless play at both ends of the floor."
In her two seasons with Central Arizona College, Pippin saw action in 58 games with 54 starts. She registered 16.8 points per game (977 points), 8.9 rebounds per game (515 rebounds), 2.9 assists per game (166 assists), 1.7 steals per game (100 steals) and 0.6 blocks per game (32 blocks). She had 21 games with 20 or more points including a high of 34 points against Tohono O'odham Community College on December 7, 2019.
She was a threat from beyond the arc in her two seasons, as she knocked down 92 three-point field goals on a .337 percentage. In the 2019-20 season, she tallied 71 connections from deep on a .335 three-point percentage.
In the 2019-20 season, the product of Bethesda, Maryland, helped the Vaqueras to a 28-3 overall record, the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference title and a bid into the 2019-20 NJCAA National Tournament, which was canceled due to COVID-19. Pippin averaged 18.7 points (580 points) on a .421 field goal percentage including a .335 three-point field goal percentage.
During the 2018-19 season, Pippin helped Central Arizona College to a 22-9 record and a bid into the 2018-19 NJCAA Division I Region I Final. Pippin averaged 14.7 points per game (397 points), 9.9 rebounds per game (267 rebounds) and 3.2 assists per game (86 assists).
Despite suffering through four season-ending injuries in the 2019-20 season which depleted the roster by early December, K-State (16-13, 10-8 Big 12) tied for fourth in the Big 12 and won seven of their last 10 games in the league.
K-State completed the season with a winning record for the sixth straight season. The Wildcats had their 2020 postseason destination derailed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which canceled the 2020 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship, the 2020 NCAA Tournament and the 2020 Postseason WNIT.
The Wildcats return 10 letter winners for the 2020-21 season including All-Big 12 First Team selection and Big 12 Freshman of the Year selection, Ayoka Lee. In addition to Pippin, K-State also welcomes in graduate transfer Sydney Goodson, redshirt freshman Jada Thorpe from injury and Lauterbach and Moore.
