K-State Concludes Fall Schedule on Tuesday

Oct 12, 2021 | Women's Golf

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – The Kansas State women's golf team couldn't move up the leaderboard on the final day of the Dale McNamara Invitational as the Wildcats finished in 12th place at the Golf Club of Oklahoma to conclude their fall season.

K-State finished its second round on Tuesday morning at 23-over par 311. The Wildcats then closed out the day by carding a 22-over par 310 third round for a final tally of 63-over par 927.

"This fall has not been up to our standards," head coach Kristi Knight said. "Our overall ball striking and our putting at times has been poor."

One bright spot for K-State was a pair of true freshmen in Lilly Whitley and Remington Isaac, who were the high finishers for the Wildcats.

Whitley, who competed as an individual, finished in a tie for 16th place at 4-over par 220 to complete the first top-20 finish of her career. She recorded an even-par 72 third round Tuesday afternoon, her second even or under par round of the tournament.

"I'm proud of Lilly," Knight said. "She had another very solid round today."

Out of the first spot in the scoring lineup, Isaac finished alone in 25th place at 7-over par 223 after carding a 4-over par 76 final round. As the fall season comes to a close, the Montgomery, Texas product still remains the team stroke average leader at 72.83.

Next on the leaderboard for K-State was Manon Donche-Gay - another Wildcat competing as an indivdual - who carded a 6-over par 78 final round to tie for 31st place at 9-over par 225.

Gabriela McNelly made a 14-spot rise in the final round to tie for 49th place at 15-over par 231. She saved her best round for last as the sophomore recorded a 1-over par 73 in the final 18.

Haley Vargas finished alone in 64th place at 21-over par 237, Briony Bayles tied for 68th place at 25-over par 241, and Heather Fortushniak finished in 74th at 29-over par 245.

UNLV claimed the wire-to-wire team victory at 3-under par 861, while UNLV's Sydney Bryan and Oklahoma State's Hailey Jones tied for the individual title at 4-under par 212.

"It is frustrating, but we all have to step up and be willing to make the necessary adjustments to be better," Knight said. "We have the spring championship season ahead of us. It's time to get after it and get better."

Kansas State will now be off for the next four months before returning to action February 27-28 at the Westbrook Invitational, the first of five scheduled events for spring 2022.
