Wildcats Compete in Iowa City for NCAA Midwest Regional
Nov 10, 2021 | Cross Country
MANHATTAN, Kan. – After clinching top-five team finishes at the Big 12 Cross Country Championships for the second year in a row, the Kansas State men and women's cross country team will move to Iowa City, Iowa on Friday (November 12) for the 2021 NCAA Midwest Regional at the Ashton Cross Country Course.
"On the men's side, we are hoping for a top-12 finish at the regional, which would put us in the top third," stated head coach Ryun Godfrey. "The women's side is up in the air right now since we had an injury last week. We don't know yet if she is going to race, but if she does, that changes the possibilities from a team standpoint."
At the Big 12 Championships on October 29, the men's team placed fourth in the 8k race with 121 points, 68 points better than fifth-place Kansas, while the women's team earned a fifth-place finish in the 6k race with 143 points.
Senior Stephen Kielhofner finished 24th with a time of 25:30.5, while redshirt junior Kerby Depenbusch was right behind Kielhofner in 25th place with a time of 25:30.9.
In the women's 6k, junior Hannah Stewart led the way in 17th place and clocked in at 12:43.33. Not far behind in 23rd was redshirt senior Kassidy Johnson recording a time of 22:02.4.
The women's 6k will be the first race at 11 a.m., CT followed by the men's 10k at 12 p.m., CT. Recognition of the top runners and teams will take place immediately following the men's 10k.
