
K-State Women’s Basketball Signs Four in November Signing Period

MANHATTAN, Kansas – Kansas State head women's basketball coach Jeff Mittie announced the signing of four players to National Letters of Intent (NLI) during the Fall National Signing period on Wednesday.
The new additions to the K-State roster for the 2022-23 season are: guards Michayla Gatewood (Glenn Heights, Texas), Ja'Mia Harris (Lancaster, Texas) and Mikayla Parks (Norman, Oklahoma) and forward Eliza Maupin (Webster Groves, Missouri). The 2022 class is ranked 23rd in the nation and second in the Big 12 by All-Star Girls Report.
"This is one of the best classes our staff has collectively put together," said Mittie about the 2022 signing class. "It has size, athleticism and shot-making ability and all four are proven winners in their high school programs."
Gatewood is a 5'6" point guard from DeSoto High School in DeSoto, Texas. Gatewood is a three-star prospect according to ESPN Hoopgurlz and ranked as the number 38 ranked point guard in the nation.
Gatewood is high school teammates with Harris at DeSoto. The duo helped the Eagles to a 28-2 overall record and the 2021 Texas 6A State title.
"Michayla has a point guard first mentality with an ability to score and distribute," said Mittie about Gatewood. "She is a strong, physical guard that can play through contact. We are excited to have her and her family join our Wildcat family."
Harris is a 5'8" combo guard from DeSoto High School in DeSoto, Texas. Harris was the 2020 Texas 6A Offensive MVP and named a 2020 All-Area Second Team selection by the Dallas Morning News while averaging 15.0 points per game.
In the 2018-19 season, Harris collected Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) All-Region honors.
"Ja'Mia is an athletic player that impacts both ends of the floor," said Mittie about the addition of Harris. "She has an excellent three-point stroke and can create offense with her on ball defense. We are thrilled to have her and her family join the Wildcat family."
Maupin is a 6'2" forward from Webster Groves High School in Webster Groves, Missouri. Maupin is a multi-sport talent, as she is also a varsity letter winner in volleyball and track and field.
Maupin is ranked as the number 71 player in the country by All-Star Girls Report and the number 21 prospect in the Class of 2022 by Prep Girls Hoops Missouri, helped Webster Groves to a Missouri Class 6 state runner-up finish in her junior season by averaging 12.3 points on 54 percent shooting including 47 percent from 3-point range, while also hauling in 5.3 rebounds and blocking 1.3 shots. In the state semifinal game, Maupin registered a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
In the 2019-20 season, Maupin averaged 11 points on 56 percent shooting and a 71 percent effort from the foul line. She also led the Stateswomen with 5.8 rebounds and 3.1 blocks.
In her freshman season with Webster Groves, Maupin tallied 11 points with a field goal percentage of 53 percent and team-highs of 8.5 rebounds and 2 blocks.
On the track, Maupin is a two-time Missouri Class 5 state champion in the high jump, capturing the titles in 2019 and 2021. In her freshman season of 2019, Maupin won the crown in her first season of competition in organized track. She also holds the school record in the long jump.
"Eliza is an outstanding athlete at the forward position," said Mittie about Maupin. "She can stretch the defense with her three-point shot as well as attack off the bounce. She is an excellent shot blocker with quick leaping ability. We are excited to welcome Eliza and her family to the Wildcat family."
Parks is a 5'9" combo guard from Norman High School in Norman, Oklahoma, and has aided the program to a pair of Oklahoma Class 6A state titles in 2019 and 2021 and was a Class 6A First Team All-State Tournament selection.
As a sophomore in the 2019-20 season, Parks averaged 11 points, three rebounds and two steals while helping the Tigers to a 24-1 overall record and the top spot in Oklahoma Class 6A before COVID-19 halted their season.
In her career, Parks is averaging 11 points while shooting 42 percent from the field and 37 percent from the 3-point line, four rebounds and two assists.
"Mikayla has the ability to defend multiple positions and can create offense with her passing ability," said Mittie about Parks. "She has an excellent three-point stroke and ability to push tempo off the dribble. We are thrilled to welcome Mikayla and her family to our Wildcat family."
K-State will begin action in the Preseason WNIT on Friday, as the Wildcats face UT Martin at 6:30 p.m. A ticket package for all six games of the Preseason WNIT start at $10. Friday's action begins at 4 p.m., as Western Kentucky faces North Carolina A&T.
